Teeth straightening options can be a lifesaver. Most people would love to have a radiant smile and straight teeth. People who have alignment issues with their teeth generally find it awkward to smile freely. In this post, we will point out different ways to get straighter teeth.

Popular teeth straightening options

1. Smilelign treatment

The process of teeth straightening, also known as orthodontics, traditionally makes use of wires and metal brackets to straighten the patient’s teeth. In contrast, Smilelign is a procedure that makes use of the latest technology for straightening teeth.

It is an invisible orthodontic aligner procedure that can give patients the straight smile they have always wanted. It has an additional benefit of improving a person’s misaligned smile without being visible to others.

Also, the braces are slim lined and quite comfortable. They can be removed easily for different activities like brushing teeth, eating, etc.

2. Invisalign treatment

This treatment is highly demanded due to its aesthetic appeal. It is one of the most popular teeth straightening options. During this treatment, the dentist takes an impression of the patient’s teeth by 3D images with an oral scanner or a putty type of material.

Invisalign aligners are made up of clear plastic, which is virtually invisible to observers. This makes it easy for a patient to get a better smile without having to worry about their appearance being altered. In addition, the plastics used to make these aligners are pliable and relatively soft, leading to less discomfort to the wearer than what they may have to face with traditional braces.

However, this treatment is not the best option for all patients. Young children are not eligible for this treatment. Additionally, some straightening issues cannot be treated with aligners.

The price of Invisalign is about the same as traditional metal braces or less.

3. Retainers

Fixed retainers like bonded lingual retainers are joined with dental cement to teeth’s surface to prevent it from shifting. That has to keep teeth in the proper alignment after orthodontic treatments. For a long-term solution, a fixed retainer is a good choice.

Retainers can be customized for lower and upper arches to straighten teeth. Patients can go for removable retainers if they do not want to wear it for special occasions.

4. Appliances

Some devices, like the Herbst appliance, can be used to straighten teeth by correcting the imperfections of the jaw. This appliance helps correct the patient’s bite by making it possible for the lower jaw to develop properly. This makes it easier for the lower and upper jaw to meet, which is required for perfectly aligned and straight teeth.

This appliance has a metal extension that attaches to molars and connects the lower and upper jaws. Generally, patients have to wear this appliance for about a year, during which the orthodontist slowly shifts the lower jaw toward the correct position.

Of course, patients always have the option of going for traditional metal braces. Contact one of our dentists to explore all your options.
