As a veneers dentist in Vista, we want to answer important questions regarding our professional veneers placement. As you approach having your veneers placed, you may have more and more questions about how to care for them, how long they will last, and what to expect. We want to answer as many questions as we can for your benefit. If we do not include your particular question in this article, please feel free to contact us for more information.

Are dental veneers permanent?

Placing veneers will require us to remove a minuscule amount of enamel from the fronts of the teeth to allow a better fit for the veneers. As such, the veneers are not reversible. If an individual does try to have a dentist remove them, then the individual will have to have another form of restorative or cosmetic work to cover the vulnerable area of the teeth.

So in this aspect, they are considered permanent. However, most dental veneers only stay fully intact and functional for 15-20 years, following this time span, we will have to replace the veneers with a newer and more functional set. We can easily replace veneers in our dental office.

How do I care for my dental veneers to ensure their longest life span?

Caring for veneers is as simple as avoiding biting or eating hard or sticky materials with those teeth, and employing a good at home care regimen. Brush and floss the teeth properly at least twice a day. The patient should also notify us if he or she has a habit of grinding teeth at night.

If so, we will supply the patient with a protective night guard to keep the veneers from sustaining damage by this habit. If the patient has any concerns throughout wearing the veneers, please feel free to visit our office for a check-up to make sure everything is functioning correctly.

How will I know what color veneers to choose?

Our office staff will help the patient decide on the right shade for the veneers with a shade guide. This guide will help us determine the best veneer color to match the natural teeth.

Will the procedure be painful and will I experience pain afterward?

Before the placement of the veneers and the preparation of the teeth, we will provide the patient with a local anesthetic to help with any discomfort that may occur during the procedure. The patient should not feel any discomfort during the entire process. The patient may also notice some sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures directly after the placement of the veneers. This is a normal reaction of the teeth to the removal of the small portion of enamel we alter. This sensitivity will disappear in a few days.

These are only some of the questions we receive regarding veneers, and we will be happy to answer your individual questions when you visit us. As a veneers dentist in Vista, we invite you to call our office for a consultation and veneers application. We know that you will love your new veneers and the improved appearance they give you.
